 There has always been a particular kind of leadership that happens at the margins. Quietly, persistently, without permission and often without resources. It does not wait for the right moment or the right invitation. It builds anyway.

Weaving theory, practice, and tools forged in real community struggle, We Build Anyway centers Black feminist frameworks and community knowledge to offer funders, policymakers, practitioners, and grassroots leaders a different orientation. One rooted in care, narrative, and the belief that the people most impacted by a problem are also its most essential architects. This is not a checklist. It is an invitation to stop extracting from communities and start building with them.

In a memory that keeps returning, a name that carries weight, a moment that divided everything into before and after. This journal was created for the person who knows they have something to say and is looking for a way in.

Fifteen guided prompts move writers, students, journalers, organizational leaders, and everyday truth-tellers through the architecture of their own stories. Each prompt is paired with words from Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou, Zora Neale Hurston, James Baldwin, Audre Lorde, and others who have lit the way, and followed by space to write without judgment, without performance, without rush.

Color has always been a way of knowing. Before we had words for what we felt, we reached for something vivid, something that held the feeling when language could not.

This collection of original digital art was created for adults who lead, create, heal, grieve, celebrate, and imagine. Each page is both an artistic experience and a quiet act of reflection, a space to slow down, be present, and reconnect with the stories that live beneath the surface of daily life. Some images were born from vision and Afro-futuristic imagination. Others were inspired by real people, places, memories, and the faces of those who came before us and made us possible.
